Room 6's Grass-Heads.

How to Make a Grass-Head.
Materials
·         1 old container
·         1 cup potting mix
·         ½ cup of grass seed
·         1 old stocking
·         1 small jar
·         Water
·         PVA glue
·         2 googly eyes
              Method
1.      Use the old container to mix the grass seed with the potting mix.
2.      Measure about 30cm of stocking from the foot end and cut.
3.      Stuff the mix into the end of the stocking.
4.      Mould into a head shape.
5.      Tie firmly.
6.      Fill the jar with water.
7.      Place the dangly, leftover stocking into the water so the head sits nicely on top.
8.      Glue on the googly eyes.
Conclusion
Seeds need water, oxygen, and warmth (WOW) to germinate.  It will be about a week before we see any change.
Lots of Room 6 students made a grass head for an optional Homework task. They brought them to school where they were labelled and photographed.  They are on display in our warm classroom.  We have to make sure the jars are kept full of water so they don’t dry out.  We will record changes as they occur over the next few weeks.

Below is a photo of Mrs Anderson’s
Grass-head after 10 days of WOW!
