Below are just some of the activities we got involved in at the Faraday Centre.
We would have to have stayed there all day to try everything.
Snippets of student's recounts are inserted below most photos to explain what's happening.
"Jenny at the Faraday Centre was teaching us about forces."
Oscar M
"The Gravity Walk was hard with the heavy jacket and the shoes. The shoes had lead in them and the jacket had sand. We had to go on an obstacle course. We had to do star jumps. It was really hard to move in the suit."
Leighton
"It felt how you would feel if you were on Jupiter."
Oscar M.
For this arch bridge to stand alone involved teamwork and precision. The specially shaped foam shapes, when put together perfectly will stand in a perfect arch. Not one group was able to achieve this!
It is very difficult to attach 2 south or 2 north poles of magnets together. We did it, but only for a second!
"Straight away we went to the wind machine. I pushed the green button... Brrr!
Wind everywhere, squirting air into my face. We held up some screens.
The first was made of solid wood. It was so hard
to hold up! It pushed us right back.
Then we held up the slatted wood which was not that bad,
and then the netting - not much change at all.
The hardest was the solid wood."
Luka
"I found a cash register. It was hard to open, but fun. I found drawers that opened and I found little paper bags in them. I think it was fun in the olden days."
Abigail
"A capsule came shooting our way and stopped. I heaved a medium length of rope that was dangling in front of me. Oscar A and Mrs Anderson were waiting on the other side. So I pulled the rope hard with two hands and the capsule fired to the other side of the room. The force was a push!"
Amy
"Meanwhile, Mum was playing the old piano. Man, was she good! You had to keep on pressing the pedals by pushing. I had a go as well. It was hard work for your legs."
Georgia
"I saw this glider launcher. I got a paper dart, I pushed the button and it whooossshhheeeddd!!!"
Oscar M.
Samuel found this old 'pull the chain' toilet fascinating!
"The water wheel was crazy, but that's how they generated power in the olden days."
Abigail
"You call other people by putting your finger in the dial and spinning it around."
Zoe
"The magnetism was amazing. I joined two magnet balls together to make a car.
I got a magnet stick. I waved it around. The car followed after it!"
Hugo
"I grabbed a bunch of magnets like Lillie and we tried to connect them, but they kept repelling.
I also managed to connect 14 ball magnets to a bar magnet!!"
Alex H.
