Our ‘Emergency Ready’ session with visitors from the St. John Ambulance.

Yesterday St. Johns visited our awesome school!  They taught us what to do when someone is in an emergency.  Ambulance Officer’s Daniel and David. And Ed. Officer Andrea, taught us how to bandage someone, what to dial in an emergency (which is 111) and they also showed us what they wear.  When we are in an emergency we know that they are not scary.  At lunchtime we got to go into the ambulances.  In one ambulance someone even got to lie on the bed!  I am so glad they reminded us what to do in an emergency!

Yesterday ST. John Ambulance came to school.  They taught us about what they do.  They said, “Don’t be scared because they are trying to help you.”  When you ring the ambulance they will say, “Fire, Ambulance, or Police?”  You say, “Ambulance!”  Then they will ask, “What is your address?” and “What is your phone number?”  Finally they will ask, “What happened?”  Then, “Thank you, an ambulance is on its way!”  Never be scared!  The mask doesn’t hurt – you just feel a tickle.  I loved them being here sharing with us and they said they loved being with us too!

Year 3/4 students signalling that we know the difference between the Police, Fire Brigade, and Ambulance Officers!

Amy got to model the gear they wear over their uniform.

Persaous helped Andrea by demonstrating that a stethoscope doesn't hurt, but it allows an ambulance officer or doctor to hear the beat of your heart!

The Pulse Oximeter didn't hurt Fred either - it measures oxygen levels in the blood!

And Sabine assured us that the Oxygen mask was certainly nothing to be scared of !

Here we are practicing how to make an emergency 111 phone call.  Here we all realised how important it is to know your address and phone number!

Here's Dave demonstrating how to use a bandage, followed by some of us giving it a go.  We discovered that applying a bandage is a good way to stop bleeding or support an injury!  Mr Jones was a very brave patient!

Room 6 all thought that this was a very worthwhile experience!                 Thank you St. Johns!
